Quake-Proof Housing

For our most recent project based assessment in science students had to create earthquake resistant structures. Students used their textbook and researched the web to find materials and design elements.  The final product had to include at minimum a sketch of the building and guidelines for the builder. Most students had an additional slide show or 3D model to help illustrate their points.  One group went above and beyond and made a cake as their model, and another used Google SketchUp.  Impressive!

Why is an X-Games medalist at our school?

Last week Wednesday we had the pleasure of welcoming Matt Wilhelm, an X-games gold medalist.  Matt was here not only to perform insane tricks on his bike, but also talk to the students about having goals and bullying.  His message was great and I think it hit home with quit a few students.  Matt was able to share his own experience of being bullied when he was younger.
In addition, Matt got the students and a few teachers involved in his stunts.  Thankfully no one was injured during the process.  Below are some pictures from the assembly.  In addition, here is a link to a video of Matt Wilhelm performing tricks on his bike.
