Persuasive Animoto Video

For the last couple of weeks the students have been working hard on persuasive writing.  Our latest assignment involves them creating an Animoto video.  If you are unfamiliar with Animoto, click here.  The students had to research a non-profit or charity organization and present it through an Animoto video.  The purpose is to persuade the viewer to support that particular non-profit or charity.  They did an amazing job! To view the videos and make comments you can click here to go to the students blogs.  All students should have their video posted no later than Thursday, January 27th.

Skateboarding and Kinetic Energy

Today we started chapter 3 in our Matter and Energy unit.  As a class we discussed the various types of energy, including potential and kinetic.  I showed the students a great website that simulates kinetic and potential energy via skateboarding.  Below is a screen shot of the site.  Click here to go to Energy Skate Park.  Who knew that students could have fun and learn at the same time?

Physical Properties, Hats, and Aliens!

Throughout our Matter and Energy unit we have been studying  physical properties.  For our chapter 2 assessment the students had to create a hat that "repels" aliens.  Not only did they make the hats in small groups, but tested all the materials' physical properties.  For example, the students tested for the ability to stretch, and bend among other things.  Below is an example of a hat made by Emma and Erika.
