Currently in socials studies the students are busy re-creating the city of Mohenjo-Daro. They were asked to pull ideas from the chapter and illustrate them on a map. Details taken from the book may include what jobs people performed, or what their city's defenses may have looked like.
In language arts the students have begun the process of writing classification essays. Expository writing has been our focus for the last few weeks. They seem to be excited! Students were asked to think of a topic that could be divided in to parts or categories. I really believe that the students' writing improves when it is a topic they enjoy.
Within their guided reading groups the students are about half way through their current novels. All students seem to be engaged, which is evident in their blog posts. Our hope is to finish these books before holiday break. If you happen to see a students with a book, ask them to explain the book's plot to you!
